- a popular television comedy series (1976-81) with a range of puppet characters, including Kermit the frog, Miss Piggy and Fozzy Bear. The Muppets were created in the US in the 1950s by Jim Henson and Frank Oz, and first became popular in the US children's series Sesame Street.
