  1. a theatre in north-east London. It became famous as the home of three important national companies: the Royal Ballet, the Sadler's Wells Theatre Ballet (now the Birmingham Royal Ballet) and English National Opera. All three have since moved to other theatres. Sadler's Wells was rebuilt in 1998 and presents a variety of theatre, music and dance.
