Roy Lichtenstein
/ˌrɔɪ ˈlɪktənstaɪn/
/ˌrɔɪ ˈlɪktənstaɪn/
- (1923-97) a US painter who helped to establish pop art. Many of his pictures, e.g. Whaam!(1963), are like large comic strips, and are seen as comments on popular culture. Lichtenstein sometimes drew other artists' pictures again in his own style, such as his 1992 version of Vincent Van Gogh's Bedroom at Arles. He also made plastic and metal sculptures.
