- (1844-1901) the man who brought W S Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan together to write their very successful series of operas, called the Savoy Operas because they were performed after 1881 at D'Oyly Carte's new Savoy Theatre in London. D'Oyly Carte also built the Savoy Hotel.
