- a lively song written by George M Cohan to praise US soldiers serving abroad in the First World War. He wrote it on 6 April 1917, the day on which the US entered the war, and it includes the words: ‘The Yanks are coming! And we won't come home ‘til it's over over there.’ The song was also popular during the Second World War.
