Nikolaus Pevsner

- (1902-83) a British architectural historian , born in Germany. His best-known work, The Buildings of England (1941-74), describes every important building in England. It was published in 46 volumes and is often referred to simply as 'Pevsner'. He also wrote The Englishness of English Art (1957). He was made a knight in 1969.
