  1. the home of US President George Washington in Virginia. It is on the Potomac River about 15 miles/24 kilometres south of Washington, DC. It was built in 1743 in the Georgian style. Washington lived at Mount Vernon from 1747 until his death in 1799, and he and his wife Martha are buried there.
