John Schlesinger

- (1926-2003) an English film director. His early films examined British working-class life, and include A Kind of Loving (1962) and Billy Liar (1963). Later films made in the US include Midnight Cowboy and Marathon Man (1976). He also worked in theatre, opera and television.
