- noun ‘High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle’, a large military vehicle that can be driven in any conditions. It was developed for the US army in the 1980s to replace the Jeep. There was also a non-military version of the vehicle called a Hummer that was made between 1992 and 2010. It was very expensive and became a popular status symbol.
