Glencoe
/ɡlenˈkəʊ/
/ɡlenˈkəʊ/
- a valley in the Scottish Highlands. In 1692 it was the scene of the Glencoe massacre. About 40 members of the MacDonald clan were killed by members of the Campbell clan and the soldiers of the English king, William III. The MacDonalds were killed because they had supported the first Jacobite rebellion and had been slow to recognize William and Mary as king and queen.
