English-Only Movement

- a campaign by some US groups to make English the official language of the country. It is mainly supported by two organizations, English First and U.S. English. An English Language Amendment to the American Constitution was introduced in Congress in 1981, but it has never been approved. However, many states have passed their own official English-Only laws.
