  1. (1908-2003) a US scientist who has been called the 'father of the hydrogen bomb'. He was born in Hungary and became a US citizen in 1941. He worked on the first atomic bomb during the Manhattan Project and then led the team of scientists who created the first hydrogen bomb, which was exploded in 1952.
