- any of a group of US fast food restaurants that serve mostly hamburgers. The company has over 6 500 restaurants in countries around the world. It was established in 1969 by Dave Thomas (1932-2002) who named it after one of his daughters. Wendy's is famous for its square hamburgers made from fresh meat, not frozen.
