Uncle Remus

- the character who tells the traditional African American stories in several books by Joel Chandler Harris (1848-1908). Uncle Remus is a freed slave whose stories include Brer (Brother) Rabbit, Brer Fox and Brer Bear. Among the books are Uncle Remus, His Songs and His Sayings (1881), The Tar Baby (1904) and Uncle Remus and Brer Rabbit (1906). He was also the main character in the Walt Disney film Song of the South (1946).
