- an international group, formed in Britain in the 1970s, that believes in attacking any organization which they feel is cruel to animals. They use public protest and even violence to do this. For example, they sometimes steal animals that a company's scientists are doing experiments on, and damage the company's property. There are similar groups with the same name in the US and other countries.
