Stephen Crane

- (1871-1900) a US journalist who wrote poems and realistic novels. His most famous novel is The Red Badge of Courage (1895) about a frightened soldier who finds courage in the American Civil War. Crane went to live in England in 1897 but died three years later at the age of 28.
