- (1918-87) a US actor and dancer famous for her beauty and known as 'The Love Goddess'. She was a major Hollywood star, especially in the 1940s. She began in musical films, such as Cover Girl (1944), and then made a number of dramatic films, including The Lady from Shanghai (1948), which was directed by Orson Welles, one of her five husbands.
