- (1939-84) a US singer and writer of soul music who was one of the stars of the Motown sound. His best-known songs include How Sweet It Is (1964), Ain't that Peculiar (1965) and I Heard It Through the Grapevine (1968). Gaye was killed when his father shot him during an argument.
