John Bunyan

- (1628-88) an English writer of religious books, who also made religious speeches in public places. He fought on the side of Parliament in the English Civil War and later spent 11 years in prison for making Nonconformist religious speeches. While in prison, he began his most famous book, The Pilgrim's Progress.
