Jack Ruby
/ˌdʒæk ˈruːbi/
/ˌdʒæk ˈruːbi/
- (1911-67) the man who shot and killed Lee Harvey Oswald in 1963. Oswald had been arrested two days before for the murder of President John F Kennedy and was being taken by the police to a prison in Dallas. Ruby pushed through the crowd who were watching and shot Oswald at close range in front of television cameras. Some people thought he did this because there had been a secret plan to kill Kennedy and Ruby was told to stop Oswald revealing it, but this was never proved. Ruby was sent to prison and died there.
