Isaac Stern

- (1920-2001) a US violin player. He was born in Russia, went to the US as a baby with his family, and first played in public at the age of 11. His many successful world tours began in 1937. In the late 1950s he organized a successful campaign to save Carnegie Hall from being destroyed.
