  1. (1824-97) an English writer and teacher. He was professor of poetry at Oxford University from 1885 to 1895. He is best remembered for his selection of English poems, published as The Golden Treasury and still often referred to as Palgrave's Treasury. He also wrote several books of his own poetry.
