- the magic sword of King Arthur. As a boy, he pulled it from a stone when no one else could move it. At the end of his life he told one of his men to throw it into a lake, where it was caught by the hand of the Lady of the Lake coming out of the water. According to another version of the story Arthur also received Excalibur from the Lady of the Lake.
