Downside School
/ˌdaʊnsaɪd ˈskuːl/
/ˌdaʊnsaɪd ˈskuːl/
- an English Roman Catholicpublic school for boys (and, from 2005, girls) at Downside, near Bath. The school was started in France in 1606 because at that time Roman Catholic schools were not allowed in England. However, the school moved to England after the French Revolution and has been at Downside since 1814. Its history is therefore similar to that of Ampleforth College.
