  1. (1928-2016) a US writer known for his books about future societies, written with his wife Heidi. Future Shock (1970) is about the fear felt by people who do not understand new technology. The Third Wave (1980) divides history into three periods of great change: the beginning of farming, the Industrial Revolution and the present 'Information Age'. War and Anti-war (1993) describes how new technologies will affect the way wars are fought and prevented in the future.
